$$$, West End
Fodor's Review:
European antiques, stained-glass windows, and touches of Asian art furnish this 1930s Tudor-style house near Stanley Park. The inn has a Chippendale dining table in the breakfast room, sleigh beds in three of the guest rooms, and a tiny Italianate garden out back. One suite winds up two levels and has its own fireplace. A lower-level suite has a private entrance, an antique four-poster bed, and its own kitchen and dining area. Port and sherry are served by the living-room fire each evening, and homemade scones are prepared daily for the four-course breakfasts. Pros: Adult-oriented, finessed elegance, knowledgeable and effective concierge. Cons: One too many gilt-edged mirrors; diamond-paned leaded-glass windows are quaint but also make rooms a bit dark.
