Situated kitty-corner to the opulent Orpheum Theatre and a major office supplies outlet, it's easy to bypass this boutique hotel that celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2008. The current renovations have restored and modernized some of the building's original architectural features -- such as recessed ceilings, gold-painted sconces, and a 1920s-style black-and-white tiled floor in the lobby. Rooms are minimalist, modern, and comfortable. Be sure to ask for the quieter back of house units overlooking a parking lot; the hotel sits on an intersection of two busy transit arteries which rumble into the early morning. Pros: Good value for location; nicely renovated, discounted parking. Cons: Noisy intersection, older building, limited guest services.
