A centerpiece of waterfront Canada Place, the luxurious Pan Pacific shares a complex with the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre and Vancouver's main cruise-ship terminal. Rooms are large and modern with maple wood throughout, Italian linens, and stunning ocean, mountain, or skyline views, all of which have been enjoyed by a star-studded list of royals, celebs, and well-heeled newsmakers. High-end suites, some with private steam room, sauna, or baby-grand piano, are popular with visiting VIPs. The 26-room Roman bath-theme Spa Utopia and Salon is sumptuous, and the health and fitness center is state-of-the-art. If you're staying over a Friday or Saturday night, Puccini and pasta were never as good as at the Italian Opera Buffet in the main dining room. Pros: The harbor views; it's only an elevator ride to the cruise-ship terminal; the "go the extra mile" service attitude. Cons: Next door to waterfront construction; the atrium is open to the convention center's main lobby so the hotel foyer, lounge, and entrance fill with delegates bearing conference badges talking shop, nabbing the best seats in the house, and vying for taxis.
