$$$$, Tofino
Fodor's Review:
This ultraluxurious wilderness retreat, a coastal pioneer of "glamping" or glamorous camping, is on the banks of the pristine Bedwell River, near Tofino. Tents, complete with antiques, woodstoves, and various luxury items, are fashioned after the Rockefellers' summer camp. Exceptional "modern natural" cuisine is prepared in a beautifully rustic log cookhouse with an open kitchen, massive stone fireplace, and indoor and outdoor dining. Three-, four-, and seven-night packages include everything from meals, drinks, and spa services to whale-watching, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and day trips to outlying islands. The resort is accessed by floatplane from Vancouver, or from Tofino by floatplane or boat. Pros: It's fabulous, once you get here; no phone or TV. Cons: The price; it can be a challenge to get here, particularly in inclement weather; no phone or TV.
