Dramatic First Nations art, a tall granite fireplace, and expansive views of the crashing surf define the striking great room at this luxury lodge, which overlooks Cox Bay. Throughout the lodge and cabins are handcrafted furniture, exposed fir beams, and such artful details as handwoven kelp amenities baskets. Accommodations include comfortable lodge rooms and two-bedroom cottages. The chef uses local, organic ingredients whenever possible for the lunch and dinner menus ($$$$), the shared plates served in the great room, and even for picnic lunches. As at other area lodges, winter storms are a major draw: rain wear is provided. Year-round, the lodge organizes adventure outings with preferred tour operators. Pros: The exceptional forested beachfront location, the restaurant, the attractive lounge and rooms. Cons: The new time-share complex is uncomfortably close; no spa or pool.
