Lawns, gardens, and waterfalls reach down to the water's edge from this cedar-sided West Coast-style inn. Rooms and suites have a chic West Coast feel with wood-burning fireplaces, balconies or patios, jetted or soaker tubs, and sweeping views of Active Pass. Ten one-bedroom suites, due to open in 2008, will each have a kitchen and private outdoor tub for two. Unique to the inn are the hidden Murphy-style massage tables in each room. The oceanfront restaurant ($$-$$$) serves locally caught seafood and organic produce with selections from an award-winning 250-label wine list; entrées include sandalwood-smoked wild coho salmon and masala-crusted rack of lamb. In summer you can dine alfresco or enjoy a drink at Galiano's only seaside lounge. Hemp-seed rubs and wild-blueberry-smoothie wraps are among the lavish spa's innovative treatments; a fitness room and yoga studio in the garden are planned for 2008. Pros: Adult-oriented, wonderful spa, great views. Cons: Construction should be completed by summer 2008, but delays are possible.
