Shakes Slough Cabins Review

If you're a hot springs or hot tub enthusiast, these Forest Service cabins on the Stikine River, accessible from Wrangell, are worth checking out. Shakes Slough Hot Springs are a short, 4-mile boat ride away from the cabins. Here you can soak in both an open-air hot tub and an enclosed version. Guests may spot the brown and black bears, goats, and moose that frequent the area. These remote and very rustic cabins—which feature views of the Popof Glacier and Mt. Basargin—sleep six on plywood bunks, and feature basic facilities, including outhouses and woodstoves, but no water or electricity. Bring your own sleeping bag, food, and cooking utensils. Reservations are required for the cabins; request details from the Forest Service office in Wrangell or make reservations by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service.
