Sentinel Island Lighthouse Review

A few miles north of Juneau and adjacent to a rock where Steller sea lions haul out, this operating lighthouse, complete with a lantern visible from 17 miles away, provides a spectacular spot to watch whales and eagles. You have the entire cliff-bordered 6-acre island to roam around on. Simple accommodations include bunks in the lighthouse and in an adjacent building; you can also pitch a tent on a platform facing the water. Water and cooking facilities are provided for all accommodations. The lighthouse is managed by the Gastineau Channel Historical Society, and access is by charter boat, sea kayak, or helicopter.
