From November to the end of April they'll take you into the wilderness on your machine or theirs to explore mile after mile of untouched, ungroomed snow. The trips are tailored to all levels of experience. 17435 Marcus Baker Dr., Palmer, AK, 99645. 888/414-7669. www.snowmobile-alaska.com.

Guides will escort you on day trips, multiday camping trips, "mother ship" adventures based in a remote anchorage, or lodge-based trips for the ultimate combination of adventure by day and comfort by night. If you're already an experienced kayaker, it'll outfit you and you can travel on your own. Also available are guided hiking and glacier trips, ice caving at Valdez Glacier, soft-adventure charter-boat trips in the sound, and water-taxi service to or from anywhere on the eastern side of the sound.
