Pho Bang

¢-$$, Vietnamese, West Phoenix

Fodor's Review:

What makes this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant so appealing -- aside from the prices -- is the simplicity and freshness of the food. The house specialty is tom va bo nuong vi (#35 on the menu): the server brings three plates, one with transparently thin slices of marinated beef and raw shrimp; another with piles of mint, lettuce, cilantro, pickled leeks, cucumber, and carrot; and the last with rice paper. You fire up the portable grill and cook the beef and shrimp. When they're done, combine with the veggies, fold into rice paper, and start dunking.
