Hilton Checkers Los Angeles Review

Opened as the Mayflower Hotel in 1927, Checkers retains much of its original character; its various-size rooms all have charming period details, although they also have contemporary luxuries like pillow-top mattresses, coffeemakers, 24-hour room service, and plasma TVs. The rooftop pool deck overlooks the L.A. library and nearby office towers. The plush lobby bar and lounge look like they belong in a private club, with comfortable leather chairs and a large plasma-screen TV.

    Hilton Checkers Los Angeles Review

We love this "little" hotel. We try to stay here when ever we come into downtown for an occasion. It's right across the street from the huge and historic Millennium Biltmore. Unlike its neighbor the Checkers feels intimate. The view from the roof top pool is fabulous at night. It's right next to the beautiful LA library, the third largest in the country. The streets are urban, but LA downtown is no different from any other big city, it can be a lot of fun or a little daunting depending on your point of view.

    Luxury room in bad neighborhoo

The hotel has little in the way of public spaces but it doesn't matter because the rooms are wonderful. The streets around it are dicey but with the valet parking you don't have to spend much time on them.
