Fittingly enough, this branch of a Japanese chain is on the edge of Little Tokyo. Its "Japanese Suites" have tatami mats, futon beds, extra-deep bathtubs, and paper screens on the windows. The American-style rooms are somewhat plain and compact. Two of the restaurants serve Japanese cuisine at authentically steep Tokyo prices. The third serves straightforward contemporary food, including a daily lunch buffet for downtown's office crowd. The hotel is close to the Civic Center and state and federal courthouses. For those who seek a contemplative moment (or a scenic wedding spot), there's a 1/2-acre Japanese garden on the roof. The on-site spa specializes in Shiatsu massage.
