Korean cuisine is emerging from L.A.'s Koreatown to the delight of a dining public craving a healthy, interactive experience, and Gyenari is among a flurry of new mainstream Korean restaurants. Named for a flower that blooms just once a year—a mural featuring the blossom dominates a whole wall—this is a sleek, stylish restaurant whose custom-made tables feature down-draft burners (excellent for fanning away smokiness). While California influences appear, you can find traditional "jap chae" cellophane noodles, mandoo (dumplings), an ample selection of seafood, the requisite kimchi, and marinated meats ranging from Wagyu beef to pork belly.
