Luther Burbank Home & Gardens

Luther Burbank Home & Gardens Review

Renowned horticulturist Luther Burbank lived and worked on these grounds and made great advances using the modern techniques of selection and hybridization. The 1.6-acre garden and greenhouse showcase the results of some of Burbank's experiments to develop spineless cactus and such flowers as the Shasta daisy. Instructions for the free self-guided garden tour, which uses your cell phone, are posted near the carriage house. In the music room of Burbank's home, a modified Greek Revival structure, a dictionary lies open to a page on which the verb burbank is defined as "to modify and improve plant life." Docent-led tours, required to see the house, take place from April through October.
