Spring Mountain Vineyard
Spring Mountain Vineyard Review
Hidden off a winding road behind a security gate, the family-owned Spring Mountain Vineyard has the feeling of a private country estate, even though it's only a few miles from downtown St. Helena. Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Syrah wines are produced in limited quantities, but the calling card here is Cabernet Sauvignon—big and chewy, reflecting its mountain origin. A tasting of current releases ($25) gives you a good sense of these wines' charms, but consider opting for the estate tasting ($50), which includes a meander through the elegant property, from the 19th-century caves to the beautifully preserved 1885 mansion. Other tastings explore library vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon ($75) and a vertical selection of the signature Bordeaux blend, Elivette ($100).
