Palm Springs and the Desert Resorts Restaurants

Purple Palm Review

The hottest tables in Palm Springs are those that surround the pool at the Colony Palms Hotel, where the hip and elite pay homage to Purple Gang mobster Al Wertheimer, who reportedly built the hotel in the mid-1930s. Now it's a casual, convivial place where you can dine alfresco surrounded by a tropical garden. The dinner menu is about evenly divided between large plates—among them roasted Jidori chicken, bouillabaisse, or Angus rib-eye steak—and small plates like fried avocado, mussels and clams, and black truffle mac and cheese. The impressive wine list roams the globe. The restaurant is also open for breakfast and lunch. A visit to the ladies room is a must for Paul Newman fans. The loo holds a fabulous black and white image of a very young Newman.
