Fodor's Review:

Vivid red Venetian plaster walls, a loungy vibe, and a widely varied menu of Pan-Asian fare make Red Pearl Kitchen unique among San Diego's Asian restaurants. Chef Jason Marcus, who has worked at acclaimed restaurants on both coasts, takes diners on a culinary journey with dishes inspired by his travels through Asia. Chinese five-spice chicken wings, duck lettuce wraps, beef short rib and pumpkin Massaman curry, and udon noodles with fried egg and bacon in a smoky miso broth are among the tempting dishes. Pair them with one of many sakes, Asian food-loving wines, or creative cocktails like the Jade Mistress. Dishes designed for sharing make it a perfect place to bring a group. On weekends, the bar and lounge are dominated by exuberant twentysomethings -- and the service can become harried and offhand.
