La Jolla's oceanfront destination restaurant includes three dining areas: California Modern on the bottom floor, George's Bar in the middle, and Ocean Terrace on the roof. Hollywood types and other visiting celebrities can be spotted at California Modern, the sleek main dining room with its wall of windows. Simple preparations of fresh seafood, beef, and lamb reign on the menu, which chef Trey Foshee enlivens with produce from local specialty growers. Give special consideration to roasted Niman Ranch pork loin with maitake mushrooms, smoked Maine lobster with squash blossoms, and the legendary fish tacos. For a more casual and inexpensive experience, go to the indoor/outdoor George's Bar, where you can get tacos and watch a sports game, or head upstairs to the outdoor-only Ocean Terrace for spectacular views of La Jolla Cove.
