Golden Gate Hotel Review
Budget seekers looking for accommodations in the Union Square area will delight in this homey, family-run B&B. Built in 1913, the four-story Edwardian building has front and back bay windows and an original "birdcage" elevator that transports you to hallways lined with nostalgic historical photographs. Freshly painted and carpeted guest rooms are decorated with antiques, wicker pieces, and Laura Ashley bedding and curtains. Only fourteen rooms have private baths, some with claw-foot tubs. Sit in the cozy parlor by the fire and savor afternoon tea and homemade cookies. People with pet allergies should note: the resident cat and dog have the run of the house. Let the innkeepers know in advance, and they will air out the room before your arrival.
