Fodor's Review:

This clubby dining room takes its name from an opera (Plump Jack is Queen Elizabeth's name for Falstaff in Henry IV) composed by oil tycoon and music lover Gordon Getty, a close friend of the restaurant's cofounder, San Francisco's 42nd mayor, Gavin Newsom. Given that kind of star power, it's not surprising that the clientele leans heavily to bankers and brokers, serious socialites, and spoiled scions. They come to eat a seasonal menu that includes such tempting plates as hamachi tartare with white soy sauce, gnocchi with yellow-foot mushrooms and nettles, and roast squab with lentils. The wine list is jam-packed -- no doubt because the restaurant is an offshoot of the nearby wine shop of the same name.
