Avila La Fonda

Fodor's Review:

Modeled after a village in early California's Mexican period, Avila La Fonda surrounds guests with rich jewel tones, fountains, and upscale comfort. The facade of the hotel replicates eight different casitas, including several famous historic homes in Mexico. Inside, stained-glass windows and tiled murals celebrate Mexican art and life in Avila Beach. Guests can choose from two types of rooms: a spa room with a huge tub near the king bed, or a great room with gourmet kitchen, queen Murphy bed, and sofa sleeper. You can also combine adjacent rooms to create your own hacienda. The lavish Owner's Spa Suite includes a sauna and steam shower -- it's available to guests when it's not occupied by the owner or special guests. An added bonus: the beach is just one block away. Pros: One-of-a-kind theme and artwork, flexible room combinations, only a block from the beach. Cons: Overlooks construction area, most rooms don't have an ocean view.
