The Smoking Ban
Smoking has been banned in restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and taverns since January 2007. It is allowed outside—with a caveat. Effective in 2010, property owners—both commercial and residential—may post signs barring smoking within 25 feet of their property. The law, however, is widely considered unenforceable, and many bars and restaurants still invite patrons to light up outside, leading to the increased popularity of establishments with rooftop bars or back decks.
