Mmmm -- home cookin'. If you're looking for comfort food (the buttermilk biscuits are melt-in-your-mouth), try this refreshing throwback. Little has changed over the years in this vivid yellow-and-turquoise-hued roadside eatery. Owner Harriette Mattson personally welcomes the visitors and regulars who come for breakfast: steak and eggs with hash browns or grits and toast and jelly, or old-fashioned hotcakes with butter and syrup and sausage or bacon.

Had breakfast here on my way back up to Miami. Very charming, good, fast, friendly service. Huge biscuits and good-size portions of everything else. Great place to start your day.
