A staple on Jacksonville's south bank for decades, the former Hilton Jacksonville Riverfront maintains its commanding presence but now as a Crowne Plaza property. Its location on the south side of the St. Johns River puts it within walking distance of museums, restaurants, the Automated Skyway Express, and the water taxi; Ruth's Chris Steak House is one of the on-site restaurants. Rooms are spacious with walk-out balconies. Guests wanting to live like a king can book the San Marco (aka the Elvis Room), a premier suite with Jacuzzi tub and two balconies that Presley called home during numerous trips to Jacksonville. (For true authenticity, order a couple of fried banana and peanut butter sandwiches from room service.) Or rent out the hotel's private yacht, the Jacksonville Princess, for a romantic cruise down the river (public dinner cruises set sail every Saturday evening at 7). Pros: newly renovated rooms, riverfront balconies, friendly staff. Cons: small bathrooms, loud a/c units, no free parking.
