You'd never know from the outside of this hotel that within is a lush, Japanese-inspired garden oasis, like an alternative universe in steamy Miami. Plants hang off beveled balconies overlooking a skylighted four-story interior courtyard filled with palms and bamboo. Twin spiral wood staircases twist up on either side of glass elevators. Birds sculpted in midflight hang in the air. It's as much sound as sight, too: the splashing fountains nearly drown the senses -- you'd think this was a giant spa. The Euro-Asian design mirrored in the Tiffany windows, polished mahogany, and imported ceramics and crystal matches the exclusive feel of Coconut Grove. Suites have terraces facing the street, screened by vegetation and wood latticework. Each room has a small Japanese hot tub on the balcony or a Roman tub inside, and 10 have antique pianos. A rooftop pool area is under construction. Pros: Luxurious private outdoor hot tubs and lush indoor garden courtyard. Con: Rooms have no views to the outside.
