Beach Plaza Hotel & South Beach Plaza Villas

$$-$$$, South Beach/Miami Beach

Fodor's Review:

A boutique hotel in a 1935 L. Murray Dixon-designed building, the Beach Plaza has landmark status (after surviving a planned demolition in the 1970s) and fully renovated interiors. It's separated from its sister property, the South Beach Plaza Villas, by a courtyard restaurant with dozens of species of plants and trees, as well as a grotto waterfall -- a great place to have lunch or hang out at night, when the air is alive with conversation. Rooms have red- and green-velvet pillows, gooseneck lamps, and dark-wood furniture, but are otherwise simple. The DeCarlos Bar is one of hottest nightlife spots in town and gets very crowded, but as a guest you'll always have VIP access. You're also within walking distance of the beach, Washington Avenue, Lincoln Road, and Ocean Drive. Pros: Central South Beach location, casual courtyard hangout, and a youthful vibe. Con: Can be noisy.
