$$$$, North Miami-Dade
Fodor's Review:
When it opened in 2006, this hotel raised the bar for luxury in Miami. You'll pay for it, too: Acqualina promises a lavish Mediterranean lifestyle with lawns and pool set below terraces that evoke Vizcaya, and Ferraris and Lamborghinis lining the driveway. There is much to love about the amenities here, including a private beach club, the colossal ESPA spa, gorgeous pools, and the trendiest of restaurants, including one of only a handful in Miami to offer unobstructed beach views. And, upon arrival, you're escorted to your room for a personal, in-room check-in. Rooms are sinfully comfortable, with every conceivable frill. Even standard rooms facing away from the ocean seem grand; they have huge flat screens that rise out of the foot of the bed, making recumbent TV watching seem like a theater experience. If you're planning to pop the big question on your vacation, a Proposal Concierge will help set the scene. Pros: In-room check-in, luxury amenities, and a huge spa. Con: The in-room lighting is complicated to use.
