  Herlong Mansion Review

  We have stayed at the Herlong a number of times over the years. Sonny used to run this B&B beautifully and it was so romantic. My wife and I loved staying here. These new owners unfortunately aren't capable. The rooms were musty, decorations were tacky and not to period of the beautiful house. I notice in the negative reviews with tripadvisor that the owner always responds with excuses rather than taking constructive criticism and making improvements. This should clue you in to the quality of service! I will not recommend this B&B to anyone any longer.

  Herlong Mansion Review

  Our Family members had a wedding there in early November, 2010.
  The staff obviously books events much too close together, and my wife and her Family were treated rudely and unprofessionally at the rehearsal.
  The wedding was the next day, and there was another wedding scheduled to start one hour later. We were definitely rushed, and the staff was interrupting our after ceremony group pictures. We we finally made to get some of the standard group shots at the reception, which thankfully was held elsewhere.
  We felt as if the wedding was an inconvenience to the staff who was intent on getting us off the property for the next wedding.
  
  We had seen many negative reviews on the Herlong, but the young couple getting married were confident this was the place to get married. Since you only have one shot at getting a marriage right, I would highly suggest not taking a chance on this place for your once in a lifetime event.

  Unfortunately, the new owner and staff of this beautiful home have no idea how to treat guests who have chosen this bed and breakfast to spend their special time away from it all. We have been to the Herlong before and loved it with previous owners. The current owners have stuck a mishmash of eclectic low quality furnishings of no specific period, plastic plants, and poor art selections throughout this house. We were treated, as you would expect to be treated as if we were staying at Motel 6. It was a bad experience and we will not be recommending this bed and breakfast to any of our friends and we will no longer stay here under this ownership. There are plenty of other wonderful places to stay when we travel to Florida.

  Absolutely Stunning - Peaceful and Charming. Carolyn was our warm and gracious host and suggested many activities we would have otherwise missed in the area- The airboat trip in Cross Creek is definitely worth doing. Our room was spacious, bright and spotless. The four poster King Bed was wonderfully comfortable and the luxurious linens great for snuggling.The french doors opened out to a huge veranda where we lay on the porch swings and watched the tiny lights come on at dusk- there are no street lights so we could actually see the stars in the night sky. Breakfast was delicious and the fresh brewed coffee nice and strong. The staff was courteous and very friendly and they lived up to the Southern Hospitality reputation the Herlong Mansion is famous for. This peaceful haven is beautifully decorated with fine antiques and one of a kind artwork all highlighted by leaded glass windows letting in the bright sunlight. Carolyn has successfully created a tranquil oasis and we were reluctant to leave - we will certainly be back.

  Simply A Disaster

  Attended a wedding at Herlong Mansion which was probably the worst experience that my wife and I have had for many years of extensive global travel. We prefer small boutique hotels where we can get to know the owners / management / staff and have been invited to many destination weddings as they seem to be in vogue. We checked into the “Pump House” which is a stand alone room behind the Mansion that boasted an out door patio, Jacuzzi tub and queen sized bed. Upon opening the door to the room we were affronted with a mildew odor that was pervasive and caused allergy issues throughout our entire stay. The room was also extremely dusty and dirty with a stained bathroom sink that could have passed for quaint if it were not for the utter shabbiness of the room. We opened all the windows and turned on the A/C unit but really brought no relief. As we checked in and were confronted with less than hospitable staff we opted to not complain but to suffer through a relatively expensive and miserable experience. The “gourmet” breakfast was served cold by relatively rude staff members who made it clear that the guests were not welcome but instead a burden that they would have preferred not to deal with. The truly frightening thing about the attitude was that my wife and I were under the impression that the worst offenders were actually the owners. All in all, a disappointing experience for what should have been a charming old bed and breakfast in the middle of nowhere in central Florida. Would highly recommend passing on this horrible place and finding refuge in the many other wonderful boutique hotels that Florida has to offer.
