Norton Museum of Art

Norton Museum of Art Review

Constructed in 1941 by steel magnate Ralph H. Norton and his wife, Elizabeth, it has grown to become one of the most impressive museums in South Florida with an extensive collection of 19th- and 20th-century American and European paintings—including works by Picasso, Monet, Matisse, Pollock, Cassatt, and O'Keeffe—plus Chinese art, earlier European art, and photography. There is a sublime outdoor sculpture garden, a glass ceiling by Dale Chihuly, a gift shop, and a schedule of lectures, programs, and concerts for adults and children. Galleries showcase traveling exhibits, too. One of the city's best-kept secrets is this museum's Café 1451, with its artfully presented dishes that taste as good as they look.
