Parmer's Resort Review

Almost every room at this budget-friendly option has a view of South Pine Channel, with the lovely curl of Big Pine Key in the foreground. Waterfront cottages, with decks or balconies, are spread out on 6 landscaped acres, with a heated swimming pool and a five-hole putting green. There are water sports galore, and the staff will book you a kayak tour, a fishing trip, or a bike excursion, or tell you which local restaurants will deliver dinner to your room. So what if the decor feels a little like Grandma's house and you have to pay extra ($10 or more) if you want your room cleaned daily?

    Parmer's Resort Review

AVOID-AVOID-AVOID: I have stayed at Parmer's Resort 3 different times now and each time has been a horrible experience! You may ask why 3 times if I had such a bad experience the 1st time and my answer is that I wanted to try a different room each time and see if things improved. That, and it is close to a property that I am developing....

Parmer's is anything but cheap, and I have spent from $170-280 a night for a room. What you get for your $$$ are EXTREMELY NOISY rooms thanks to the very old wall/window ac units installed directly next to, and only 3-4 feet from your head (while laying in bed), so it's pretty much impossible to get any sleep!!

Check-in is at 3pm, and even though I called ahead at 12 noon during my most recent stay to let the staff know that I would be checking in between 4-5pm, and to ask them to make sure that the ac was on (it was 95 degrees outside) prior to our arrival, the room ac was turned off when we arrived and it was 100+ degrees in our room when we arrived!!! Given the antique ac units, it took several hours to even get the room to a reasonable temp...

In addition, bring your own toilet paper, because the stuff they supply is so thin that, well, you get the idea... Also, the towels and linens provided must be used cast-offs from some cheap motel, and to add insult to injury, you've got to bring your used ones to the front desk to get fresh ones. That would be great, if it worked, but on my recent 4 day, $1000+ stay, I couldn't get new towels the entire time, until right up before check-out, when I observed someone drop a bag of fresh ones on the porch, evidently in prep for our departure!!

Parmer's Resort is to be avoided at all cost!!! For the $$$ that you spend here, just drive 27 miles to Key West and get yourself a place on Duval Street for half the price.

    Enjoy the Keys!
