Art of the Olympians

Art of the Olympians Review

Opened in January 2010, this institution was the vision of the late Al Oerter, four-time gold medalist and Fort Myers Beach resident. Based on the original Greek standard of well-rounded achievement in athletics and art, the gallery upstairs overlooks the river and displays artwork created by Olympian athletes including Oerter, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Peggy Fleming, Rink Babka, and Bob Beamon; exhibits on the first floor inspire children and other visitors toward high achievement in sports with interactive displays, Olympic videos, memorabilia, traveling exhibits, and guest Olympic programs. This is the only facility other than Olympic training and competition centers that the U.S. Olympic Committee allows to use the "Olympian" name and display its five-ring logo.
