In the heart of City Market, Belford's is great for brunch on Sunday, when so many of the downtown venues are closed. A complimentary glass of sparkling wine arrives at your table when you place your order. Brunch entrées include egg dishes, such as smoked salmon Florentine and crab frittatas. The lunch and dinner menus focus on seafood, including Georgia pecan grouper and Lowcountry shrimp and grits. The building used to be a wholesale grocery company; modern tweaks include huge windows, wooden floors, exposed brick walls, and an expansive outdoor patio. Some have called the crab cakes the best in the city.

Not right for the price

On vacation and we were expecting a nice meal after a dy of sightseeing. Service was poor as we were not greeted the same as other tables. Service was slow with drinks and bread. Not a great menu selection. My steak was not season well and not worth the $32+ dollars I paid for it. My husband was so unimpressed with the menu that he ordered from the kids menu! Was very disappointed we spent almost $90 for a family of 4 at this restaurant.

Dreadful, give it a miss

I didn't rate the food poor because I haven't gotten food poisoning there. Otherwise, I'd just call it insipid and usually lukewarm. I am chagrined to say "usually" because alas I've been there three times! The first time we met there because it was a central meeting point.. the second time wasn't my choice and the third time we wanted to go to Bistro Savannah, it was closed, and all four of us were starving and my parents were tired of walking. I chose the safe choice (hamburger) which was raw (despite my medium well order) and then the re-do was rubbery. My Mom's quiche was cold. Overall just a disappointment and I think the only reason it's still in business is because it's in City Market - captive tourists.

Beautiful and Historic but not Inexpensive

I visited Belford's for the first time and found it to have a great atmosphere in the City Market area. The waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable and the food was excellent. However, the portions aren't that big and plates are already on the high side so if you're a hungry guy like me you have to bring some cash to get full.

Poor atmosphere, poor food, too expensive

This is a typical tourist restuarant. When I went, the teenagers had the run of the place and you could hear them yelling rap songs all over the establishment. I could barely get out the door because the staff was crowded about the entrance grab-assing with each other like it was a high school. The food was ok, I had crab-cakes. But for the price it was sub-standard. I was dissappointed that Fodor's listed this in their book. It was completely lame and I recommend avoiding it.

Located in City Market - rather commercial place. So we were pleasantly surprised at the wonderful food. Their blue crab fritatta is a must have. The eggs benedict were also A+.

Had to wait a few minutes, but it was graduation night and the outdoors area is great for people watching. Seafood is great and service was excellent for the large group we had

Terrible dining experience
Posted by mpast from Atlanta on 4/24/07
This is the most poorly managed restaurant I've ever dined at! I booked the banquet room for 20 guys and it was a terrible experience. 3 people never received their meals and half the people (approx 10 people) had to send their steaks back b/c they were grossly undercooked. All of us are big steak eaters and even the guys who enjoy a raw steak couldn't believe how cold the steak centers were. After my steak arrived for the second time I still couldn't finish it because it was still undercooked. By the way, I ordered the filet and what I managed to eat was very low grade steak. Management was unimpressive and very reluctant to make our dining experience enjoyable despite several updates on our situation. After waiting 2 hrs for the 3 missing meals we decided it was time to leave. Management took off some of the liquor drinks but still charged us for the missing steaks?!?!?!?! We wanted out so we paid the bill and left. A week later I complained to the general manager who stated he would investigate and promised to call me back. Guess what... he never called!
