With its black-lacquer tables and lipstick-red banquettes, Kenichi's seems a little out of place in this small strip mall. The location keeps many tourists from finding it, even though it's been open for several years now. This is where everyone in Kailua-Kona goes when they feel like splurging on top-notch sushi. It's a little on the spendy side, but it's worth it. The sashimi is so fresh it melts in your mouth, and the signature rolls are inventive and tasty. For vegetarians, the Austin roll -- tempura asparagus -- is fish-free and delicious.

Wonderful Japanese fusion cuisine. The bamboo wrapped salmon and duck confit are fabulous. Portions are small, so use that fact to sample an appetizer and one of their great sushi rolls (we loved their lobster roll).
Their desserts were the best we had on the island and beautifully presented--like a work of art.
The location in a strip mall is very unlikely and you have to really look to find it even within the shopping center.
Service is professional and unobtrusive.
They DO accept credit cards now! We paid with one.
