Hawaii is a major destination link for flights traveling to and from the U.S. mainland, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. All of the major airline carriers fly directly into Honolulu. For international travelers, Oahu is a gateway to the United States.
If you've allotted more than a week for your vacation, you may want to consider visiting a neighbor island. From Honolulu, there are departing flights to the Neighbor Islands leaving almost every half-hour from early morning until evening. Since each flight is only 30-60 minutes in length, you can watch the sunrise on Oahu and look for the green flash at sunset while on either the Big Island, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, or Molokai. To simplify your vacation, schedule your return flight to Oahu so that it coincides with your flight home.
Check local and community newspapers when you're on Oahu for package deals and coupons on interisland flights. Both Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines have stopped offering the once-popular multi-island air passes, but there are other ways to save money on interisland fares. Sign up for either airlines' free frequent-flyer programs, and you'll be eligible for excellent online specials that aren't available by phone or elsewhere. There also are a number of wholesalers that offer neighbor island packages including air, hotel, rental car, and even visitor attractions.
