The Marriott (formerly the Outrigger) was built before current construction laws were put in place, so rooms sit much closer to the crashing surf than at most resorts. Wailea Beach is a few steps away, as are the Shops at Wailea. In 2007, the hotel completed a $60 million renovation with redesigned guest rooms, a new 10,000-square-foot Mandara Spa, and a redesigned Hula Moons Restaurant & Bar. Public spaces showcase a remarkable collection of Hawaiian and Pacific Rim artifacts. All of the spacious rooms have private lanai and are styled with a tropical theme. There are golf privileges at three nearby courses, as well as tennis privileges at the Wailea Tennis Club.
