Chicago Opera Theater

Fodor's Review:

Chicago Opera Theater shrugs off esoteric notions of opera, preferring to make productions that are accessible to aficionados and novices alike. The production of "Nixon in China," a contemporary American opera detailing conversations between the former U.S. President and Henry Kissinger (among others), is a shining example of the company's open-mindedness toward the operatic canon. From innovative versions of traditional favorites to important lesser-known works, the emphasis is on both theatrical and musical aspects. Fear not -- performances are sung in English, or in Italian with English supertitles projected above the stage. They're held at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.
