If you don't get the hint from the bustling bar scene spilling into the lobby or the antique suitcases stacked as an art piece near the elevator, the James further announces its hipster pedigree when you enter your room. Pre-programmed alt-rock plays on the iPod-ready stereo system perched on the bar beneath the ready-to-party bottles (not minis) of vodka, whiskey, and rum. Some rooms feature not one but two flat-screen TVs, not to mention Kiehl's bath products and design-conscious furnishings like platform beds and full-length lean-to mirrors. The relatively hands-off service is fitting enough -- for a party hotel.
