Chicago Restaurants

Bar Toma Review

Italian culinary master Tony Mantuano (of Spiaggia and Terzo Piano) has reclaimed the Water Tower tourist trap area as Chicago's landmark piazza with his neighborhood pizzeria, Bar Toma. Visitors stroll in early in the morning for espresso shots and freshly baked cornetti; linger to snack on Roman-style fritti (fried appetizers) and hand-rolled mozzarella for lunch; and sip imported wines and feast until late evening on artisanal wood-fired pizzas made with premium ingredients like house-cured guanciale (Italian bacon) and rapini. If your schedule only allots for a grab-and-go bite, stop in for a quick gelato or mamaluchi (Italian doughnuts stuffed with lemon marmalade).
