Restaurants Overview

With some of the nation's wealthiest families making Mount Desert Island their summer residence, a handful of restaurants cater to those seeking an upscale dining experience. These restaurants offer carefully prepared dishes, extensive wine lists, and impressive service. Like most of the coast, the area is also home to many restaurants specializing in hamburgers and other typical American fare. You won't see fast-food chains, but you will find good food at reasonable prices. Many area restaurants carry locally produced microbrews on draft or by the bottle. If you like pale ales, brown ales, or stouts, you should be able to find something to tempt the palate. Note: In accordance with Maine state law, smoking is not allowed in any place that serves food, be it a restaurant or a bar.
