This elegant and refreshing inn, dating from 1885 but renovated in 2004, respects its Victorian history -- without the stuffy Victorian decor. All rooms have their own character -- each was designed by the owner with a family member or friend in mind. Light-color walls, hardwood floors, and gas fireplaces give them a comfortable, contemporary feel. Although the inn does not have ocean views, it is a short walk from most Bar Harbor attractions. Wine and hors d'oeuvres are served each evening, and a full gourmet breakfast is available in the atrium each morning. You can relax on the sun porch, in the parlor, or in the reading room by the fireplace. The club-style lounge is filled with puzzles and games. Appointments with a licensed massage therapist are available. Pros: A full breakfast is served in the morning; wine and hors d'oeuvres in the evening. Cons: No ocean views, and you may wish to drive for dinner.
