By Car in Acadia NP

By Car

From the gateway towns of Ellsworth and Trenton, Route 3 leads to Mount Desert Island. When you reach the island, Route 3 continues to Bar Harbor. Route 102 heads toward Somesville and Southwest Harbor. In summer, traffic can slow considerably, especially in the afternoon. If Northeast Harbor is your first destination when arriving on the island, take Route 102 to Somesville, then turn onto Route 198.

In Acadia National Park, the 27-mi Park Loop Road is accessible from Hulls Cove (visitor center entrance), Otter Creek (Sieur de Monts Spring entrance), and Seal Harbor (Jordan Pond House entrance). You can also access the Park Loop Road from Bar Harbor (Cadillac Mountain entrance).
