Savage River Lodge Review

Halfway between Grantsville and Frostburg, this upscale lodge is tucked away in Maryland's largest state forest. Nestled on the wooded 45-acre plot are 18 cozy, two-level log cabins and an excellent restaurant that includes vegetarian menus and a nationally-recognized wine list. The handsome three-story lodge, with a towering stone fireplace that splits the room, is a short walk from the cabins. They boast oversize furniture, queen-size beds draped with down quilts, gas log fireplaces, oversize soaking tubs, and porches with rocking chairs. Muffins, orange juice, and newspapers are delivered to your room each morning. Activities range from birding, sleigh rides, and horseback riding to stargazing.
