Cambridge
Once upon a time renowned resident Annie Oakley would shoot waterfowl from the ledge of her waterfront home here. Today graceful Georgian, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival buildings abound, and with an art gallery here and a museum there, a night or two in this county seat can be very refreshing. Cambridge has gained residents—both weekenders from Washington and Baltimore and permanent urban refugees—who have taken advantage of housing prices that are lower than surrounding bay communities. The town's revitalization was slowed by the recent recession, but its fortunes continue on an upward trend. There is a lively scene here, especially on the weekend and events are published in an online newsletter at www.cambridgemainstreet.com.
