The little doggie dish outside the entrance is a tip-off -- this isn't an ordinary hotel. Owned by Kimpton Hotels since 2006, this property is stylish and swank. The lobby is a knockout, with copper metallic draperies and high-backed leather chairs. Giant suspended glass globes stand in for chandeliers. It all adds up to a spare feel, the better to compliment the cool threads of the youngish, style-conscious crowd. Guest rooms, updated in 2006 and 2007, have bold patterns, curvy black armoires, and full martini bars; some have floor-to-ceiling windows. Unexpected features include in-room yoga (turn on their yoga channel, and ask them to bring you a yoga basket) and "guppy love" (they'll lend you a goldfish bowl if you get lonely). Corner rooms (ending in 05) have awesome views of the Longfellow Bridge and the gold dome of the State House, but they'll cost you $80 over the room rate. The gym is really small, but they'll give you a pass to a local fitness club. Pros: Great style; lobby wine-tasting every evening (from 5 to 6); Mario Russo (Newbury Street) bath products; KO Prime, a new-in-2007 steak house (replacing Spire restaurant) run by überchef Ken Oringer. Cons: Smallish rooms, overlooks a cemetery.

Bedroom geared to martini drinking guests, I requested a coffee machine which appeared promptly but was then unable to get the coffee replenished for the rest of the week (and I tried). So I bought my own, and sugar, and milk. Dining room is very gloomy especially for breakfast and some of the upholstery could do with repair. Dining there in the evening I really hate eating in the dark, so although the food was excellent I was annoyed by the lack of light.
On the other hand, staff were unfailingly polite and helpful (except for the coffee), room was otherwise good, shower excellent and bed very comfortable.
I would stay again, but take my own coffee.....

Just came back from a phenomenal 4 night stay at nine zero. The service we received here is without question the best I've ever received: welcomed us, knew our names, suggested fantastic restaurants and entertainment, and dealt with a noise complaint in the next room within 3 minutes. They also provided litter, bowls, and a litter box for our cat at no charge. The beds at this hotel are incredibly comfortable, and the bathrooms (and the bath products) are slick. We had a corner room with a spectacular view of the boston common. The hotel's ultramodern style is not my personal favorite (check their website for pics) but if you want to stay in the heart of downtown in a luxury bed and get exceptional service, this is where to go.
Make sure to check websites for the best rate-- i paid $70 less than list (about 230; list was around $300) after finding a better rate on kayak.

Each year I take my two kids (now 6 & 9) to Boston for a night or two to either go to museums or a show. This year we chose to go see Annie so we decided to stay in the Theater/Financial District. Nine Zero was a solid choice for its proximity to the theaters as well as the Freedom Trail and Commons. The staff was exceptionally friendly and the room ( a queen premier) was a decent size. That is where it ends...The hotel claimed to have special things upon arrival for its Kimpton Kids program but that never surfaced. The food was horrendous! My kids could not even eat the grilled cheese from the KO restaurant. It killed me to pay the $90 dinner bill only to walk down the street to Finagle a Bagel to get them dinner. The muffins the next morning were equally as bad. Not sure where the trend started that hotels offer massage and beauty treatments to dogs but nothing for children who quite likely could be their patrons in years to come??

Hotel Nine Zero has an excellent location, the rooms are clean, quiet and the bedding is plush. There were some cigarette burns on the carpet and on the toilet seat but thankfully no smell of smoke in the room. The carpet also had some poorly patched spots.
The service was responsive - I called down to ask for a toothbrush and it was brought up within 5 minutes! We'll stay there again due to its central location.

we stayed here for one night in our stay in Boston. The room was magnificent -- the most comfortable bed we've ever had in a hotel room (better than westin's Heavenly Bed), a luxury spa-like bathroom, etc. the room was also very large relative to most hotel rooms.
