Pigalle Review

A quaint, 20-table spot, Pigalle is a romantic destination to hit before taking in a show in the neighboring Theater District. Chef Marc Orfaly spices up basic French fare by throwing in the occasional Asian-inspired special. He plays around with global flavors, so don't be alarmed to find spicy tempura tuna roll or grilled squid with paella stuffing on the menu next to the steak frites and cassoulet. For a delicious, cozy meal, this spot consistently has some of the best service in town. In late 2011, the bar and its menu were both extended, offering more casual fare such as burgers.

    Pigalle Review

These guys made me laugh! Honestly, I've never seen such a behavior from top-class restaurants (at least how owners Kerri and Marc position their place). Me and my wife had a dinner at Pigalle and one of the dishes, Cassoulet, was cooked so badly that my wife wasn't able to finish it. Meat there was partially well-done, partially rare. And we were never asked how we like it! No questions why we left it barely touched! That might be totally fine for some restaurants with customers having low expectations, but not for Pigalle! OK, fine, we paid for dinner, left the place and I wrote a brief review online regarding our dinner. The funniest thing happened afterwards. Owners send me an e-mail apologizing and offered to send us $50 CERTIFICATE! Can you imagine that??? That amount doesn't cover the cost of the dinner for one person without alcohol! Essentially it looks like: OK, you spend a lot for totally ruined dinner, but come to see us again and you'll spend a bit less. In details (particularly for Kerri and Marc!), me and my wife are rather busy people and don't have plenty of time to spend together. Therefore, if we choose a place for romantic dinner then it must be a top-class restaurants. And we don't mind to spend a lot for good experience, but we don't want any surprises like what happened at Pigalle. I just don't want to spend our time on persuading my wife not to pay and leave the place immediately after such a junk was served, and nobody came and aksed how was our meal. And I'm not talking about my and my wife's mood after such a dinner. That's why I called this dinner absolutely ruined! But offering your $50 certificate is even worse! I tried to explain that to Kerri via e-mail and his subordinate via phone (Kerri even didn't want to talk:-) ), but they insisted of $50 apology. Just to explain the business in this class of restaurants, similar thing once happened to me (without my wife) at another upscale restaurant (I don't want to write its name here since after that we support very good relations with that place' owners). After I complained them, they didn't just apologizes via e-mail, but owners also called me to apologize in person, they organized managers' meeting to avoid such a mistakes in the future, and they offered me a certificate for free dinner with wine pairings, for two persons! I understand that everybody can make a mistake, but the question is what to do after that. That, Kerri and Marc, is the right way to behave, but asking your subordinate to call me and insist on taking $50 is basically the way to ask people to have a dinner somewhere else.

    Quiet romantic French place

One of the best French spots in Boston -- quiet, warm, romantic. Excellent food, attentive service, pricey but good value for the money. A sometimes overlooked gem. Well worth the visit.

    Delightfully French

The tuna rolls were unexpected and delicious as was the rest of the well-paced dinner.
