By Bus in Boston

By Bus

Greyhound has buses to all major cities in North America. Peter Pan Bus Lines connects Boston with cities elsewhere in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland. Besides its main location at South Station, Greyhound has suburban terminals in Newton, Framingham, and Worcester.

Concord Trailways heads to Maine and New Hampshire. C&J Trailways sends buses up the New Hampshire coast to Dover. Vermont Transit Bus Lines travels to Vermont, New Hampshire, and Montréal. Plymouth & Brockton buses link Boston with the South Shore and Cape Cod.

All of the above-mentioned bus companies leave from South Station, whose multilevel bus deck, open around the clock, simplifies making connections to other local public transportation and to the Amtrak train lines. The station is clean and safe, with plenty of places to grab a bite. But many bus lines also make stops at Logan Airport; check individual lines for up-to-date schedules.

If you want to travel in style, the LimoLiner provides luxury bus service (with television, movies, high-speed Internet, and food-and-drink service) between Boston's Hilton Back Bay and Manhattan's Hilton New York for $69 each way. If you prefer a cheaper option, the low-price Fung Wah Bus (often called the Chinatown Express) travels daily between New York City and Boston for about $15 one-way. Buses leave from South Station in Boston and Canal Street in New York. The buses are usually as good or better than those used by Greyhound or Peter Pan.

Fares and schedules for all buses except LimoLiner are posted at South Station, at many of the tourist kiosks, and online.

Major credit cards are accepted for all buses. You can usually purchase your tickets online.
