Newspapers & Magazines

The top two local daily newspapers are the Boston Globe (www.boston.com) and the Boston Herald (www.bostonherald.com). There are also several excellent suburban dailies and local weeklies. The alternative paper Boston Phoenix (www.bostonphoenix.com), published every Thursday, provides the best arts and nightlife coverage. The monthly Boston Magazine (www.bostonmagazine.com) reviews everything from restaurants to hair salons and publishes the annual Best of Boston awards.

Radio & Television

For radio news, turn to WBZ radio (AM 1030) or public radio WBUR (FM 90.9), a local NPR affiliate. Other popular stations include WFNX (FM 101.7) and WBCN (FM 104.1) for alternative rock, WBOS (FM 92.9) for current rock and pop, WZLX (FM 100.7) for classic rock, WCRB (FM 102.5) for classical music, and WGBH (FM 89.7), another public-radio station, for classical and jazz.

Local TV news stations are WHDH, Channel 7; WBZ, Channel 4; WCVB, Channel 5; and WFXT, Channel 25. New England Cable News, available on various cable-TV channels, provides 24-hour news. Public TV station WGBH, Channel 2, has some local public-affairs programming.
