Sandwich Glass Museum

Sandwich Glass Museum Review

With its more than 10,000 square feet of exhibits, the Sandwich Glass Museum has information about the history of the shimmering glass that was manufactured here more than a century ago. There is a diorama showing how the factory looked in its heyday, an "ingredient room" showcasing a wide spectrum of glass colors along with the minerals added to the sand to obtain them, and an outstanding collection of blown and pressed glass in many shapes and hues. Large lamps, vases, and pitchers are impressive, as are the hundreds of candlesticks and small saucers on display. There are daily glassblowing demonstrations on the hour between 10 and 3. The extensive, ornate gift shop sells some handsome reproductions, including some made by local and national artisans. The museum also hosts historic walking tours on Wednesday June through August.
