Student Prince Review

Housed in an old fort of Springfield founder William Pynchon, the dark wood-paneled Student Prince (or the Fort, as the locals call it) is nearly an institution in Springfield and home to one of the largest beer stein collections in the country. Fried Camembert and a few salads notwithstanding, this is a large menu of meats: beef, chicken, seafood, veal, lamb, pork, and sausage. The main attraction here is the German dishes like hoppel poppel ("farmer's omelet," with eggs, onion, potato, bacon, and hot dogs), jaeger schnitzel (veal steak), sauerbraten served with potato dumplings and cabbage, eisbein (pig knuckle), and sauerkraut. Come in winter, and try the house special weisswurst (sausage made with veal and fresh pork bacon).

    Student Prince Review

The institution is still around. Good food, however the service is somewhat abrupt at times, sit at the bar and get quicker service. How can you not love all the steins? Hofbrauhaus? - Not a chance.
