The Hancock Inn Review
This Federal-style 1789 inn is the real Colonial deal—the oldest in the state and the pride of this idyllic town 8 mi north of Peterborough. Common areas possess fireplaces, big wing chairs, couches, and dark-wood paneling. Colonial rooms have antique four-poster beds over original wood floors. Because the inn is in the heart of Hancock, just over from the green, you're right in the middle of a perfect hamlet. You don't need to go far to eat—the Inn's restaurant ($$) serves an excellent Shaker cranberry pot roast, and across the street is the town market and a very popular café.
